We have established a new method for assessing the disease severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and influenza virus infection. This team has also identified D-alanine as a protective nutrient against viral infections in mice models. D-amino acids may represent potential biomarkers and therapeutic agents for the treatment of severe viral infection.
