The Challenge to Conquer Diseases: Integrating Cutting-Edge Technology to Boost Innovative Drug Discovery
About CDDR
To contribute to the development of innovative drugs, including biopharmaceuticals, vaccines and other novel modalities, the CDDR promotes research and development related to drug design, including drug target discovery technology, candidate screening technology, in silico drug discovery technology and drug optimization technology, to contribute to the discovery of drugs to conquer disease.
The CDDR also serves as a technical support center for the ‘Drug Discovery Support Network’, a national collaborative framework. The CDDR supports to bridge the gap between seeds found in universities and other institutions and drug discovery, based on the various technologies on drug discovery platforms and bioresources that CDDRs possess.

Target Discovery
Laboratory of Proteomics for Drug Discovery
We are focusing on clinical proteomics in order to discover drug targets and biomarkers from various clinical samples.
Laboratory of Biofunctional Molecular Medicine
Our aim is to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis and to develop novel therapeutic and diagnostic modalities targeting the internal functions of cancer-specific molecules identified through comprehensive omics analyses.
Drug Discovery
Laboratory of Antibody Design
We are working on developing next-generation antibody therapeutics that maximize therapeutic efficacy within patients' bodies. By focusing on the dynamic higher-order structures (epitopes) of antibody binding, we aim to design more effective binding modes and create high-performance antibody therapeutics for clinical application.
Laboratory of XNA-Screening-and-Design
We are committed to the development of nucleic acid drugs using xeno nucleic acids (XNAs) created by our organic synthesis technology. Our strengths are our original sequence design algorithm for antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) and our unique polymerase library to create modified nucleic acid aptamers based on our extensive experiences.
Evaluation of Drug Discovery
Laboratory of Bioimaging-and-Drug-Discovery
Our laboratory aims to elucidate the in vivo modes of action of drugs and to discover new drug targets for various intractable diseases based on the understanding of their pathophysiology by visualizing the inside of the body using the latest bioimaging techniques.
Laboratory of Advanced-Biopharmaceuticals
Diversity in drug modalities is important as the application of pharmaceuticals is broadened. Our laboratory contributes to development of new technologies in new biopharmaceutical modalities including engineered antibodies and their drug conjugates.
