2. Background and objectives
Disease model animals play an important role in the study of various human diseases including intractable diseases, as well as in the development of treatments and medicines. At the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition, we are responsible for (1) the care and health management of laboratory animals, (2) support for animal experiments (e.g., microbiological clean-ups), and (3) support for various committees (e.g., the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Laboratory Animal Management Steering Committee).
3. Overview of our mission
I. Proper management and operation of the animal facility at the Saito Office (Osaka).
- Cooperation with contracted animal caretakers
- Facility hygiene management (facility clean-up, etc.)
- Arranging training courses for animal experimentation
- Support for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Laboratory Animal Management Steering Committee
II. Research support through the application of reproductive technology (in collaboration with the laboratory of animal models for human diseases)
- Microbiological clean-ups of infected animals
- Cryopreservation of embryos
- Cryopreservation of sperm
